One silver-lining of the constant discrimination that the adult industry faces from traditional social media sites is the influx of new and innovative players coming to market to even the scales. These new adult-friendly players keep the industry thriving with out of the box thinking and unique concepts on how to monetize content and connect with fans without fear of being shut down.
With this in mind, we recently explored PinXsters — a free online community created by adult models for cam models.
The newcomer was launched in October 2021 and is finding its footing in the new year. YNOT Cam spoke with PinXsters co-founder Jennie, who told us that the idea was conceived during lockdown when one of the administration team members kept losing their Instagram profile without appeal. She commented that they made use of this time to create a platform based on what they as adult models thought it should look like.
What is PinXsters?
PinXsters describes itself as a blend of Twitter and an adult site and touts an inclusive, non-discriminatory environment where models, performers, journalists, customers and business in the adult space can gather in a community to share ideas. Currently, PinXsters states they have over 200 active client members and over 200 models.
They further pledge no shadow banning — the harmful practice of mainstream media channels in silencing those in the industry by hiding their profiles, their hashtags and their opinions without them knowing why or even telling them. In January, PinXsters even published a blog specifically about shadow banning and how they were working to combat the discriminatory practice.
The PinXster service itself provides a video camming play pay per minute chat service in combination with pay to view, subscriptions, photo and video galleries and social media which includes follow/like, DM, emoticons, block functions, real time news feed/activity wall (like Facebook) and the ability to promote directly on the site via hashtags. PinXsters also has an event creator which allows the model some freedom from scheduling headaches. You’ll fill out a form in advance of when the event would be and the PinXster software will send emails to your followers reminding them to attend as it counts down closer to the show. This is especially helpful if you’re busy or must go out of town and don’t have time to shout out an event you’ve been planning.
PinXsters’ Current and Planned Features
When asked how PinXsters is unique from other sites out there, Jennie said not only does it encompass all of the traditional features of Twitter (direct messaging, follow/unfollow and block functions) alongside adult site features like Live Pay Per Minute streaming and Pay to view/PPV, but that it was built with adult businesses, performers and clients to all be in the same place at the same time. In addition, non-industry professionals and users are welcome on the platform.
Jennie was also clear to state that PinXsters only makes its money when the registered model does. It’s free to sign up and free to promote. PinXsters’ virtual currency is called Credits — 1 Credit is equivalent to 1 United States Dollar. Payout is set at 70% and done through their pay-out partner, which also services Adultwork.com, Niteflirt.com and Chaturbate. Creators can price the content they wish to sell at the rate they want. Live-streaming monetized (Free, Group and Private mode) broadcasts will soon be available.
Goals for PinXsters include working on a feature where users and models can anonymously post a suggestion about something they’d like to see on the site and a plan to expand the visibility of PinXsters by most likely including a subscription service on top of the existing one-time buy system that they currently have in place.
